Our Story

We are Niky and Mauro. Bird photographers, nature lovers, and storytellers.

In 2021, we left behind our office jobs, routines, and comfort to embark on a journey that changed our lives: The Big Year Colombia. For 365 days, we traveled across all 32 departments of the country and recorded 1,471 bird species, while connecting deeply with the landscapes, cultures, and communities that make Colombia so extraordinary.

From that journey, something bigger than us was born:
Birds Colombia Experience.

We believe birding is not just about counting species. It’s about building connections—between people, places, and stories. That’s why we created a different kind of travel experience, where you don’t just visit Colombia… you truly live it.

When you travel with us, you’re not booking a tour. You’re joining a story. You’ll walk the trails we’ve walked, meet the communities that have inspired us, and see Colombia through our eyes—and through our lenses.

Beyond photography and travel, we also lead an educational and conservation project called Guardián de las Aves—a movement that empowers children across Colombia to discover birds and become nature ambassadors in their own communities.

Through this project, we donate birding kits, organize youth events, and support the next generation of bird lovers and protectors.

So every journey you take with us also supports a much greater flight.

We don’t work with strangers. We travel with friends.

In 2021, we set out on a journey that changed our lives forever. We left everything behind to travel across Colombia for an entire year, photographing birds, meeting communities, and discovering the soul of our country—through its wings.

This gallery is a visual journal of that year.
Moments of wonder, challenge, connection, and joy.
